JOB SUMMARY
The Head of VFX Department is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the visual effects department, from project inception to final delivery. This role requires a blend of creative vision, technical expertise, and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in VFX production, a deep understanding of industry trends and techniques, and the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team of artists. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Creative Leadership:
- Provide leadership and direction to the VFX team, ensuring a high standard of creativity and quality in all projects.
- Collaborate with directors, producers, and other departments to conceptualize and develop innovative visual effects solutions that meet project goals.
- Project management:
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of VFX projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Manage project schedules, resource allocation, and workflow optimization to maximize efficiency.
- Client Relationship Management:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs, preferences, and visions to ensure satisfaction.
- Engage in active communication with clients throughout the project lifecycle, providing updates and integrating feedback effectively.
- Bidding and Proposal Development:
- Understand the bidding procedure and lead the preparation of project proposals, including accurate cost estimates and resource requirements.
- Collaborate with the executive team to strategize on bids, ensuring competitive pricing and value proposition that align with industry standards.
- Team Building and Development:
- Build and lead a high-performing team of VFX artists and technicians, fostering a culture of collaboration and creativity.
- Mentor and develop team members through constructive feedback, training opportunities, and professional growth strategies.
- Business Acumen:
- Understand the fundamentals of running a successful VFX business, including financial management, resource allocation, and strategic planning.
- Monitor industry trends and competitive landscapes to identify growth opportunities and potential areas to enhance service offerings.
- Technical Expertise:
- Stay current with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in the VFX industry, implementing new techniques and workflows as appropriate.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and guide the team in adopting the best practices for VFX production.
- Quality Control:
- Establish and enforce quality standards for VFX work, ensuring that all output meets the company’s artistic and technical requirements.
- Conduct regular reviews and critiques of VFX work, providing guidance for improvement.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments, including animation, lighting, and compositing, to ensure cohesive integration of VFX into overall projects.
- Maintain strong communication with clients and stakeholders, managing expectations and incorporating feedback.
- Budget Management:
- Collaborate with the production team to develop VFX budgets and oversee financial management of department resources.
- Monitor costs throughout project lifecycles and implement cost-saving strategies where possible.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Visual Effects, Animation, Computer Graphics, Film Production, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
- 8+ years of professional experience in the visual effects industry, with a minimum of 5 years in management.
- Strong business sense of VFX industry.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Experience in project management and an understanding of production pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Willing to relocate to Bangkok, Thailand.
